That would depend ultimately on which class advancement you plan on going for & how you want to play your character.
As a soldier, you have 2 options in class advancement: Brave or Wrestler.
The brave is commonly used as a tank for parties as they are the only class that can use plate armor which gives the highest defense. The basic build for this class would be 3 stamina & 2 strength.
Where the brave is mainly used for defense, the wrestler is used as a combination of defense & offense. While not being able to take the blows a brave can, the wrestler may also be used as a tank in a pinch. The trade off here would be that the wrestler does more melee damage than the brave using the basic build of 3 strength & 2 stamina.
