Crafting guide for beginners

Hi, I figured the in game explanations were not of much help about what to chose between producing and gathering.
So I decided to try everything at a low level.

The game says you can have one producing skill and one gathering skill.
You can choose between :

-Producing skills :
Forging (weapons)
Manufacturing (armors...mail, leather, cloth)
Cooking (hp/mp food and pet's loyalty)

-Gathering skills :
Mining (ore and crystal)
Hunting (food and hide/pelt)
Collecting (vegetables and tissu...)

I advise to chose your producing skill first and then the gathering skill.

Forging/Mining (need crystals)
Armor chain / mining (need ore)
Armor leather / hunting (need pelts/hides)
Armor cloth / collecting (need tissu)

Cooking depends on what you prefer : hp/mp regen or pet's loyalty

Cooking regen / collecting
Cooking pet loyalty / hunting

More explanations :
In fact the three gathering skills can give you two materials, one that will help in your producing skill and one useless (so you can sell at your heart content :D )
Because of that, the result is 3 gathering and 6 producing (only Forging is self sufficient with mining).

I have the completely upgraded gathering skill; but, it will not allow me to learn a producing skill... I'm half tempted to delete her and start again for all the bugs on that first elf.  You're guide is most helpful and makes a lot of sense.  Perhaps I'll try with one of my other elves. :)
